CVT - Punch Powertrain

Punch Continuous Variable Transmission (VT2/VT3) Fluid Level Inspection Procedure

  1. Fill approxiately 4L of compatible CVT fluid through the filler hole
  2. Start the engine and let it idle for at least 10 seconds (Note: it's normal to observe air gushing noise at the moment)
  3. Shift between P - R - N - D at minimum 5 seconds interval.
  4. Shift to D.
  5. Release the foot brake pedal.
  6. Gradually and gently accelerate to >60 km/h while keeping the engine speed below 2500 rpm.
  7. Release the throttle and bring the vehicle to a full stop (air gushing noise should disappear).
  8. Warm the CVT fluid by driving for at least five minutes or until the transmission reaches a temperature of ~60 °C.
  9. Stop the vehicle on a level ground.
  10. Step on the foot brake pedal for two seconds.
  11. Shift to N and wait for 10 seconds.
  12. Shift to P.
  13. Loosen the overflow plug while the engine is idling.
  14. Determine that at least 0.2 L of fluid is over flown (indicating sufficient initial oil level)
  15. Tighten the fluid level plug (21 +/-3 Nm)
  16. Turn of the ignition - OK.
14b.  if less than 0.2 L was over flown, add ~0.5 L of new fluid, then repeat 2 to 16.

CVTF levelling. 300mL was added, 480mL overflown. That's 180mL too much in the transmission from the previous workshop. Not critical enough to cause any major issue, but it tells a lot about the competence.
